All works are 9 x 12 inches, created with Prismacolor pencils on Legion brand Stonehenge paper.

The sun draws nearer to the horizon, and the shadows of trees, chimneys, and satellite dishes are getting longer. The artist’s eye is drawn to the delicately curving shapes cast by window frames onto curtains. It’s at these moments, at this time of day, during these walks around town, when Tim McCool finds most of his inspiration.
In this latest series of 20 drawings, neighborhoods from the artist’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, are depicted alongside houses and details from trips to other American settings. Locations include both the urban and suburban, and all are drawn in McCool’s unique color palette consisting of yellow highlights paired with soft pinks and purple shadows.
Many of the subjects are depicted head on, the sun striking the face of the house, bathing it in the fleeting warmth of 4 or 5 PM. The potential for these drawings exist only for a matter of minutes before the sun continues down past the horizon, making the discovery of certain shadows and patterns a completely random, chance occurrence.
